Media:Preserves Democracy and Democratic Process in the Philippines History.

m

Media has a major part in history even today, it affects how we see things. Not all media are true, some are made with lies, but some are truthful, delivering the information we need to survive. Just like if there’s a storm incoming, the radio informs us that it was coming so it gives us time to prepare for the worst of it. Media can cause controversies but it can also save lives, which is why it has such a massive affect on history.

Democracy is by far the most challenging form of government, both for politicians and for the people. For politicians because of course they need to win the heart and votes of the people for them to win, and for people for it is up to them who will be the next officials to form this republic and protect the democracy that we have nowadays. Democracy is a system of processing conflicts in which outcomes depend on what participants do but no single force controls what occurs and its outcomes.
Democracy in the Philippines means deep respect and due observance of the rule of law. Democracy means liberalization and the opening up of the economy. Democracy meant citizen participation and nongovernmental organizations were encouraged and allowed to increase more. Civil society was made to grow without government pulling the strings behind it.

But what’s the connection between the Media and democracy?

What’s the role of Media in preserving democracy?

Mr.Gonzales, BSE History graduated from Philippine Normal University, History teacher at Manila Cathedral School

According to a history teacher from Manila Cathedral School that we interviewed     which is Mr. Fernando Gonzales, Media during Martial Law times are really limited, filtered or suppressed because the government only wanted to show to the people about the good deeds that they have done, but they did not want the Filipinos to know the wrong doings of the government. There’s only one channel that people can watch and it was controlled by the government only. All the programs there were controlled by the government, all the actors and actresses were recruited by the government, and no action movies or series were allowed.
Media is really powerful nowadays, especially now that we have social media, in just a click away, a lot of information and news will pop up. Now it’s our responsibility to identify which is true and which is not. Let’s not go back to the times where we just saw a news and because someone said it or posted it we would believe in it instantly.
The Media before is a credible source because before they report the news to the people, they make sure to gather the right information, unlike now there’s a lot of fake news.
Media did not only help to preserve the democracy before, but also up until now, for it already tells us about the corruption and wrong doings of the politicians and how justice works on them.

To sum it up we must always be responsible enough to know the truth behind the information that we received, we must always seek the truth  for us to not repeat what happened in the Media during the Martial Law times.
